The story you are about to hear is the story
of a contagious disease and it involves people
who are crazy about short films. The first symptoms
appeared three years ago when the film producer
Javier Fesser heard a comment
by a movie great:
Francis Ford Coppola
(Frances as he is known to his friends). It
went something like this:
“
Stars who make millions, big studios,
Hollywood´s big vacuous productions will
disappear when young people discover digital
cameras that will allow them to make small creative
movies. Filmmaking is changing, and as soon
as young people start working with a digital
camera it will make a complete turnaround. This
will undermine the politics of big productions
that are devoid of content, of stars who ask
for too much, all of which has little to do
with cinematic creativity.”
Fesser was never the same after that. He
spent many sleepless nights thinking about
how to turn Frances´s words into a reality.
Soon after, he found the perfect partners
who shared his vision—Notodo.com
and Películas Pendelton.
Notodo.com is a website specializing
in cultural events; it began almost three
years ago from an idea developed at La
Fábrica, a private cultural
service company. Among its other projects
are: Matador, a new tendencies magazine, and
the International Photography Festival PhotoEspaña.
Notodo.com prefers quality
to quantity and believes that culture like
all good things—comes in small packages.
in the last few months in addition to the
Notodofilmfest.com, Notodo
has also worked on two interesting projects:
Photogaleria.com and Notodohoteles.com
Películas Pendelton
is a small film factory founded in 1992 by
Javier Fesser and Luis Manso, and in addition
to having made tons of television commercials,
have produced the short films, ”Aquel
Ritmillo”,That Rhythm, and “El
Sedcleto de la Tlompeta”, The Trumpet
Holds a Secret, and the feature film, “El
secreto de P. Tinto” The Secret of P.
Tinto“. They are also responsible for
the Internet series, “Javi y Lucy”,
their first experiment on the net (and certainly
not the last) that can be seen at www.plus.es.,
the Canal Plus website. Currently,
Javier Fesser´s movie “Mortadelo
& Filemón´s Great Adventure”
is a hit at the box office, it is an adaptation
of the classic Spanish comic strip characters.
Together, in Spring 2001 we started the first
edition of the Notodofilmfest.com:
“the” internation short film festival
on the internet (there are others, but not
quite like ours). Some said we were insane,
but the risk was worth taking. A total of
449 films were submittted and we proved that
our friend Frances was right : the internet
is one of the best places in which to show
off new talent and present the ideas of many
new filmmakers. Watch out Hollywood! After
the success of the first year, we did it again
in 2002. Last year, we beat our record and
had a total of 624 films. We still can´t
get over it...
... we want to stay crazy. Crazy about movies,
crazy about the internet. And especially crazy
about a new form of making movie magic: compressed
films. We know we are not alone; the success
of the past two editions proves that there
are many people out there who have stories
to tell and who want to prove that good filmmaking
is not all about money, but about ideas, imagination.
We want to continue giving our support to
this endevour. So, once again, for the third
year running: Notodofilmfest.com 03.
Let´s get on with the show!
