Rules for the NotodoFilmFest.com
Jameson Distilled Film Festival
5th edition

Hi everyone!
Here we are again with a new edition (the fifth!) of Notodofilmfest.com. Keep in touch, because to celebrate we have prepared a lot of surprises this year. For a start, here are the Festival rules. They provide a complete guide to all the steps you must take to make sure your films reach us safe and sound. As usual, we recommend you read these rules very carefully. So let’s get going!

FIRST THINGS FIRST
Notodofilmfest.com is a festival with an international vocation. This means that anyone (whether a natural or a legal person) can participate regardless of nationality, always provided they are already 18 years old.

You can submit as many shorts as you like to the contest. We don’t want to limit your imagination in any way, but you must take these two golden rules into account:

- your film must be original and never released before; in other words, it cannot have been seen in any medium (Internet, television, etc.), festival or contest nor can it be shown until after the jury has made its decision
- your film cannot be a reduced or enlarged version of any short made prior to this festival

Of course we’re not private detectives, but if our organisation should learn that your short does not comply with any of these requirements, your film will not be accepted for competition. Therefore, we recommend you take no chances and comply with the rules to avoid after-the-fact annoyances.

Furthermore, employees of Notodo.com and Pernod Ricard España cannot compete.

I’VE MADE UP MY MIND. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO PARTICIPATE?
It’s quite easy. Your first step should be to fill out the registration form you can find on our website (www.notodofilmfest.com) in order to obtain your participant code.

Once you have filled out this form and sent it to us by e-mail, you will receive a message containing your participant code at your e-mail address. If for any reason you do not receive this code, contact us and we’ll send it to you as soon as possible.

It’s very important that you do not lose this code number since it represents your “boarding card” for the festival and you’ll need it to send us the shorts you want to submit. VERY IMPORTANT: if the short has several directors, each of them needs a participant code number.

NOW I HAVE MY PARTICIPANT CODE NUMBER. WHAT’S THE NEXT STEP?
If you have your participant code number, all you have to do now is send us your film by e-mail. To do so, you must fill out a new form or data sheet also available on our website and provide us with some basic information about your short.

HOW DO I SEND THE FILM AND THE POSTERS?
Both the film and the two posters are attached to the registration form. It mentions three sections:

- FILM FILE
- SMALL POSTER FILE
- LARGE POSTER FILE

Please make sure that each file corresponds to its section. Don’t get confused and attach a poster to the film section or vice versa.

ATTENTION PLEASE: Our Festival is bilingual this year. We invite you to send us your film with subtitles in Spanish (if your short is in English) or in English or Spanish (if your short is in another language). This way your film can be fully appreciated by the largest possible number of people. This is not mandatory, of course, but highly recommended.

Once you have attached the three files and made sure that none of the information we have requested on the data sheet is missing, you only have to click the SEND button and - Voila! - you’ll immediately be on a new page that will tell you whether or not you have filled out the form correctly. (If not, you’ll have to go back to the previous step.)

Please wait until the process has totally ended, because transmission could be interrupted due to a problem in our server and your file could reach us incomplete. To make sure your film has been sent correctly, the Festival offers you a List of Shorts Received at the following address: www.notodofilmfest.com/listado. We will post all the shorts that Notodofilmfest.com has received by order of the author’s name. Check this list to be sure.

Later, when we have confirmed that your short complies with our rules, we’ll send you another e-mail to inform you whether it has been admitted to the contest.

You should also aware that the organisation reserves the right to not accept for the contest those pieces that according to its judgment do not meet the technical, artistic or legal requirements demanded by the Festival.

I ALSO HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT…
Don’t forget the following mandatory technical requirements:
Film size shall not be more than 5 Mb (or, in other words, 5,242,880 bytes).

The film cannot last longer than 3.5 minutes (including the initial and final screens). If you present your short in the Triple Distillation category, it should last exactly 30 seconds, screens included, not one second more or less.

You should send it in one of these three digital formats:
- .wmv
- .mov
- .swf

You have to add to your film the two screens or curtains that we provide at RESOURCES SECTION (Be careful! The ENTRANCE one goes at the beginning and the EXIT one at the end.) Each screen must be shown for 1 second. Remember the maximum size of your film has to be 5 Mb (or 5,242,880 bytes) with these screens included.

Furthermore, you have to send us two versions of a poster:
- a small poster measuring 118 x 118 pixels with a maximum size of 9 kb. It must be in jpg format.
- another larger poster measuring 174 x 174 pixels with a maximum size of 15 kb. It should also be in jpg format.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO SEND MY SHORT?
You can send us your short or shorts from October 24th, 2006 until January 10th, 2007 at 12 am. So as soon as you finish reading these rules, get going. We’re dying to see them!

Although the period for submitting the films is more than two months, we advise you to send us your work soon. You know the saying, “The early bird…”. By submitting films early, the audience will have a lot more time to calmly enjoy them and we’ll avoid the famous last-minute “collapses” and nervous fits.

WHO WILL SEE MY FILM?
As has been true since our first edition, Notodo.com, organiser of the Festival, has formed a Selection Committee comprising film professionals and they will be in charge of viewing the shorts as they arrive. Here are the members:

Millán Vázquez. Sales and Project Manager at Agencia Freak
Marta Jimeno. In charge of films at Cadena 100
Ángel Mirallas. Journalist and film critic
Luis Manso. Executive producer of Películas Péndelton
Mónica Gallego. Dissemination Manager at Agencia Freak
Carlos Marañón. Editor and film critic for Cinemanía

Once the period for receiving films is over, or in other words after January 10th, 2007, this same Committee will decide which films among those that have been accepted will become Finalists and therefore have a chance at the prizes granted by the Jury and the Audience.

AND IF I AM ONE OF THE FINALISTS, WHAT DO THE JURY AND THE AUDIENCE DO?
If your film becomes a Finalist, we will send it to the members of our new Jury, which this year will comprise the following leading directors:

Santi Amodeo
Jaume Balagueró
Matías Bize

Javier Corcuera
Rodrigo Cortés
Javier Fesser
Pablo Llorens

Daniel Sánchez Arévalo
Santiago Tabernero

They will have to decide which Finalist films merit reaching the highest echelon and becoming the Winners.

The Audience also decides an important prize: the Best Film Prize (selected among the Finalists). So if you are convinced of your chances, start soft talking your friends and family so that they can demonstrate their love by voting for your film when the time comes...

WHAT DO I GET IF MY FILM WINS?
As always our sack is full of money. Here are the prizes you can win this year:

Jury Grand Prize for the Best Film: endowed with €15,000 plus a four-week scholarship at the New York Film Academy

Three Jury Prizes as follows:
Best Fiction Film Prize: endowed with €2,500
Best Animated Film Prize: endowed with €2,500
Best Documentary Film Prize: endowed with €2,500

Jury Prize for the Best Triple Distillation Film: endowed with €2,000 plus a one-week scholarship at the New York Film Academy

What is the Triple Distillation Prize?
We want to reward those shorts that are able to show the greatest capacity for synthesis in the shortest time possible. Here’s why. Jameson is famous all over the world for its three distillations. In making whisky, each distillation improves the final quality of the beverage. We propose you do the same with your short: that you condense in 30 seconds, not one second more or less, the entire narrative essence of a film. Of course these 30-second shorts will also be eligible for the other Festival prizes.

Furthermore, there will be an Audience Prize for the Best Film endowed with €1,000. This prize will be chosen by voters on Internet.

WHAT LEGAL ISSUES AFFECT ME?
You should know that you are the only one responsible for your film and everything it contains, such as images and sounds by other authors. If any of these authors or their legal representatives asks for explanations at any time, you will have to deal with them yourself. We decline any legal responsibility for your film and its content.

For your participation in the Festival, you must assign to us at no charge all rights to your short until the Festival’s next edition. We do this to be able to reproduce, distribute and pass it on to the thousands of media representatives who will surely ask for it and give your work the widest possible distribution. After this date, we’d still like to be able to continue showing your film on Notodofilmfest.com. If you don’t want this to happen, let us know. We’ll take it off the website to make everyone happy. One more thing, however. If you win any of the prizes, you must assign us at no charge whatsoever the rights to your film for an indefinite period so that we can boast about our winning films in our next editions and clearly demonstrate the quality of our Festival.

In words that are more serious than ours but say the same, this goes as follows: “By participating in the Festival the author/s assign/s at no charge whatsoever his/her/their rights to the public communication, reproduction, marketing, distribution and transformation of the film in question to Notodofilmfest.com, Notodo.com and Pernod Ricard España for their use of the work by means of any international dissemination or distribution modality and authorise/s them to assign such rights to third parties until the call for entries of the Festival’s next edition. These rights shall be tacitly extended until the author/s communicate/s to the Festival in an irrefutable fashion his/her/their wish to terminate the validity of the clause assigning such rights. The participant also agrees to assign free of charge the rights to public communication, reproduction, commercialisation, distribution and transformation until the same date. Those participants who win a prize assign the aforementioned rights to their work indefinitely to Notodo.com and to the sponsors for dissemination on their websites.”

Given the social commitment to responsible drinking accepted by Pernod Ricard España S.A. and their obligation to obey existing legal regulations and their Self-Regulation Code, they reserve the right to refuse to enter in the competition any short that:

- Includes scenes in which alcoholic beverages are drunk to excess

- Includes scenes in which any type of drug appears

- Includes scenes in which, although the product (alcoholic beverages) does not appear suggest that drinking alcoholic beverages causes situations characterised by entertainment, lack of inhibitions, success in sex, work, sports or anything else or that it causes violent or sexist attitudes or any attitude inappropriate in any way or that portrays non consumption as being synonymous with failure or an inability to fit in. Similar situations produced by the consumption of any type of drug will also be excluded from the contest

- Includes alcoholic products in which the brand can be recognised

- Includes scenes of alcohol or drug consumption by those under age, pregnant women or by people undergoing medical treatment for whom alcohol is not recommended

- Shows scenes of abusive consumption of alcohol followed by driving scenes

- Explicitly addresses an under-age audience

- Is produced or directed by people under legal age

Pernod Ricard España S.A. supports the opportunity that Notodofilmfest.com provides to new film talents for developing their creativity and authenticity, however this does not imply that they back or share any or all of the messages implicit in the works submitted to the contest. Having granted the authors freedom of subject matter, the limitations contained in these rules are for the sole purpose of obeying the legal regulations currently in force and the Self-Regulation Code to which Pernod Ricard España S.A. is committed.

The measures described are adopted based on the self-control mechanisms accepted by the spirits industry in accordance with the Spanish Spirits Federation Self-Regulation Code in order to promote responsible drinking.

In this new edition of the Notodofilmfest.com, Jameson Distilled Film Festival, we’re going to give users the chance to download Festival shorts to their cell phones. All participants will receive €0,13 for each paid download we have collected, provided that the number of downloads is equal to or more than 500 per short. Settlement of the amount owed to each contestant will be made annually.

Notodofilmfest.com reserves the right to use some shorts for promotion purposes, in which case downloads will be free of charge and will not generate any income for the contestant.

Furthermore, the Agencia Audiovisual Freak, S.L. collaborates with Notodofilmfest.com and offers the possibility of commercially distributing what they consider the Festival’s best shorts. To do so, it will publish a DVD with a selection of shorts that will be presented in international markets and festivals in order to reach the greatest possible number of purchasers. The author of the short will receive 60% of the income derived from marketing the work. This collaboration gives continuity to the international promotion and dissemination that Notodofilmfest.com gives the shorts that are submitted to the contest each year. The Agencia Audiovisual Freak is the Spanish company with greatest experience in the field of commercial short distribution. You can learn more about them at www.agenciafreak.com.

Finally, the organisation is exonerated from all liability in the event of a malfunction in the Internet network that impedes normal development of the competition due to causes unconnected with the company and particularly due to malintentioned external acts. Nor will it be responsible for any transmission problems or loss of e-mails not directly attributable to the organisation.

ANYTHING MORE I SHOULD KNOW?
Yes there is. Don’t forget to make a high-resolution copy of your short in DVD format because at any time during the Festival we may ask for it in order to project it at the Award Ceremony or at other events related with Notodofilmfest.com (television programs, etc.).

AND FINALLY, LAST BUT NOT LEAST...
You already know that as in all contests the act of participating implies that you accept the rules. Our Organising Committee will decide about any case that may arise that has not been covered by these rules. If you need more information or want to consult any doubt you may have, please write to us at info@notodofilmfest.com. We´ll be very glad to be able to help you.
