(Madrid, 1978)
Piedra, who has a degree in Audiovisual Communication, began to direct and produce low-budget video clips upon finishing his studies in 2000. His first work, The Guilt, for the Madrid group Migala, was awarded the Best Video Clip Prize in the III Short Film Festival in Mieres in 2001. This collaboration earned him the friendship and trust of the group, with which he continued to work in making the documentary Sigue y tuerce ahí (2002, 40th edition of the Gijón Film Festival, Disorder and Concert Section). The next step was to accompany this band to make the projections they use in their live concerts, and he finally became an official member when the group’s fifth album La increíble aventura (Acuarela, 2004) was about to be launched on the market. In it, a video clip accompanied each musical theme.
Nacho Piedra’s name is usually linked to the Acuarela record label. To date he has made a total of 20 musical videos with Acuarela for figures like Sr. Chinarro, Aroah, Grupo Salvaje, Emak Bakia, the Scotch group The Zephyrs, the American group Xiu Xiu and the already mentioned Migala.
For years, he has reconciled his work as an independent director and producer with that of film critic and recently he has become part of the staff making the programme Carta Blanca on Televisión Española, La 2.
